Honesty- Daily Prompt: Evoke

Why is it so hard to say the truth?

We say thousand of words a day
But the ones that mean the most tend to be left unsaid
For the fear of hurting others’ feelings
I know I am guilty, I am that one

I would hold it in, for years
Before saying what I truly felt
Or meant to say, as to not
Hurt the ones I care about

I want to say it to you
Somehow let what I feel
Just slip out, be acknowledged
Because I don’t know how much longer it can be unsaid

The truth is not overrated
Especially when it burdens you
And weighs you down
All because you care too much

But why? Why do I care so much
Probably because I do not wish to disappoint
I simply want to evoke smiles, not frowns
But is a frown worth the truth?

For the truth will set you free

  1. In my humble experience, for what it’s worth, when we are willing to wait silently while seeing clearly until the moment comes in which the truth may be said and received in a loving way; if we dedicate a lot of loving meditation to the former and pray very hard for the latter, that moment comes.

And if all our silent compassion and truthful clarity and loving courage are rewarded, we will know in those moments which few words out of the hundreds and thousands to speak, to unlock all the rest of the insights which already exist waiting in their own hearts.

I think your own silences have been not so much cowardly as the instinctive delicacy of waiting for such moments, but without the full conceptual confidence of their eventuality to manifest them yet very well.

Bet you’re about to discover you’re a natural born expert at it now 😘

    1. That’s so true, sometimes it’s well and good to not say a few things to not hurt another’s feelings.
That’s how it works and will always do.

But why not say it off, talk it out in a way that’ll sound positive and be open? Isn’t this possible? (if tried)

      1. Well, this reminded me of a person who decades ago sang something like:

        ‘Imagine all the people
        Living life in peace

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one’

Someday it will. Yeah it works really good. I spoke my mind out the day before to a friend on how people like him..end up where… and sort of stuff. Then he opened up more to me.

      2. It can only happen if a person feels confident and comfortable enough to TALK. I’m glad you did that and that your friend could feel comfortable to open up to you!

        And those lines are true!

  2. I have the same feeling like you sometimes. When you have been let down many times, you will definitely clam up. Maturity is when you know whom to trust. Not all will be sincere enough about themselves. But there are still those with pure hearts. You will meet them along the way. They will definitely help you along your journey. You must learn to know who they are. Just continue being the light and spread goodness and goodness follows. It’s what I have learned. ❤️

    1. And you know what? You are one of those pure souls I met in my journey, you’re one of the best persons I’ve ever met!

And yes, right, I agree with what you have pointed. With time I will definitely learn to know whom to trust and rely on! Thank you!
      (you are one of them😋)

      1. Wow! I got goosebumps when you said that. It felt heartwarming. Thank you. I am not that perfect but thank you for considering me as one. You must rely always on your instinct when dealing with people. That was my past mistakes. You’re always welcome 😊❤️

  3. Truth has the power of a million splendid Suns or even more! In the beginning of his spiritual practice Gandhi used to say: God is truth(which is also in Vedanta as Sat-chit-Ananda Sat) but when he matured he said: Truth is God as his preconceived notions about God faded one after another. Truth is our ticket out of this dimension and almost every children is taught to be truthful when she is young but as she grows up and observes the world around she has to start learning to wear masks else it hurts. In the long run ticket is lost and she keeps wandering here waiting for another way out. An inspiring post. Thank you!
